Sarah + Tom
I try to schedule most engagement sessions in the evening to take advantage of the sweet light - but instead of a warm glow we received some moody clouds, which suits a beach session just perfectly. Before heading to the beach we played on an old road and I love what we created.
I am photographing Sarah and Tom's wedding this fall and can't wait. They are laugh out loud people and such a gorgeous couple.

Are you kidding me with those stunning eyes Sarah?

Kara
Oh my, yesterday was off to a rough start, computer glitches of course. However, I hopped in the car and zoomed to the studio and left the stress at the office. No one was in the office, so I figure with nobody to stick to the stress went some where else - sorry if it went to your house.
After my studio time, Selah and I was off to puppy school and then hit a "really too late if you are a good parent Benino Gelato session" - it was just what the day ordered. I wrapped things up with some evening chip fueled night editing, including this session of the stunning and much loved Kara.

Jump in and help the family
I didn't blog a food photo yesterday and I just might not again today. Breath. Yes, I broke the rules, this is not the type of rule I am usually comfortable breaking - totally takes me out of my comfort zone. Because if I say I am going to do something I am going to do it. Seems like a good trait doesn't it? But sometimes it can be a bit annoying.
So my mom came over and we ended up sneaking out to my new favorite place for the so-good-I-could-eat-you-every-day Fish Taco's at Pescadoras AND we went just the two of us and sat and talked JUST THE TWO OF US for an hour and that is what I did instead of shooting and blogging local food.
Today I am off for a wedding and just don't know if I will make it back to the computer.
But, onto other things.
Photography runs in my family. My mom is a well known professional nature photographer and her husband Gerald is quite the photographic artist.
Gerald’s photo of Charles Bridge in Prague has been chosen for the BCAA 2010 calendar and BCAA has requested votes for one of the 12 images to be on the cover.
If you could just take a wee second and hop on over here http://bit.ly/DZmGI and vote that would be mighty kind of you.
On another note, my sister is a very experienced yoga teacher and is running a workshop at Painters Lodge - their workshops are great value. You can check it out here.
Happy Birthday Daria
It is Daria's birthday today so I thought I would get a little blog post up for her. Last week I stopped in at their home for a little play session with her boys. I have many a fave from this session but I saw this series and thought "when these two are in their 40's this series will be meaningful." It is totally timeless and completely part of their day to day life, a little cereal break.
I have had the absolute pleasure of photographing these boys as they grow up, and I have to say they are two of the most adorable brothers, they never fail to entertain and fascinate me.
Daria, I hope you are having a wonderful, restful joyous Birthday week - you are an amazing, talenting woman. Sending you big hugs!
A little Sunday Action
Last week I took a Saturday off - it is a rare occurrence during the summer months, yet I do take a few to have some Saturday weekend love. However, I did work on the Sunday. I now have a big crush on Sunday sessions. What I find is that people are really chilled, they have soaked up some r&r on Saturday so they are feelin' fine. Meanwhile, when we are out and about photographing everyone else is at home mowing their lawn, which means we have parks and streets to ourselves.
Feeling like you want some Sunday session action, I only have a few Sunday's available so give us a call at the office and grab them while you can.
Now, part of the warm fuzzy of the Sunday Action was the people I were photographing. First up was the Warne family - who pretty much laughed with me through the whole thing.
A nice family portrait:

and then the one I think they should hang up huge in their house

So after the Warne family I was riding a good photo high, which was thankfully joined by the Buchanan's. This family is a show stopper- literally. I met them before when three out of the four of them hit the stage as Part of the Pantuso Groove 2009 show and they owned it - it was great to have them in front of the camera and to have the chance to get to know them better. You couldn't ask for better clients.
Now I have to say two of my absolute fave's from this shoot can't be shared. It is a surprise to their mom and dad and you have to wait until your all your images are ready for viewing. Sorry - I promised your kids.
Love the tree overhanging in this one.

and something a bit different

Comox Valley Grad
We have had some really neat Grad's coming through for sessions and I had to share this one.
I photographed Nate's brother last year and was blown away by his poise - it seems to run in the family.
Nate is poised, warm, smart and an absolute lovely subject to photograph.
Myself and my assistant Joanne, headed up to their family property in the early evening and shot until the sun went to bed.
Enough chit- chat, here are some fave's. I had about 10 marked to blog, but narrowed it down.

Nate's gorgeous girlfriend joined us for a few images.

If you are considering a session for the grad in your life I can't encourage you strongly enough. They are so meaningful and we really aim to capture the essence of who the grad is and what matters to them.
I am very confident that they are photos that will just grow in meaning.
Thanks Nate, for the great session
What a way to end the day
Despite my rumblings in the morning yesterday was a day that I would happily live again.
It brought a wonderful baby session, a trip to my amazing chiropractor (past McKinnon bride Dr. Robin Rae), a work meeting, a trip to the compost session with Maggie and Selah for One Big Earth's gardening program and then the school fun fair.
When I finally returned home one of the most extreme flower bouquets I have ever received (mom, it rivalled the one you sent me five years ago in Victoria - the one that was so big I had to buckle it in a seatbelt on the drive home,) awaited me.
It was from the St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation as a thank you for some volunteer photography work I have done for them. It is stunning and I would have taken a photo of it but my gear is at the studio (this is the first time I have done this and it is a lame idea I will not repeat. ) So you will just have to imagine a bouquet which is way to big for any vase we own. I love it.
I do however have some Today Present Party photos to share.
While I was setting up Selah made her own little sign

My Favorite photo of the day. Andi and her wow face when she came in the new studio. Thanks Andi, I will look at this photo when I am having a bad day. On the right is a photo of Oliver with a photo of his sister behind him - these two kids are easily two of the most photogenic in the valley.

Future cupcake decorators take note - in order to snag all the sprinkles, decorate your cupcake with icing and then turn it upside down and collect sprinkles using a stamping motion.

I have no idea who took this photo, but it cracks me up

Thanks again to everyone who came by and all that supported the event.
